Bocabec 2012

July 19, 2012

Every year, the highlight of our summer is to attend Bobabec- the gathering of about 30 family friends at Bocabec Bay, near St Andrews By The Sea. There is an old homestead owned by family friends and we all take our tents and travel trailers and camp in the back yard of the home for a weekend. The weekend is full of food, campfires, friends and beach time. Well, this year marked the last year of the vacation, after over 40 years due to the house going on the market to be sold. I’ve gone on this vacation almost every year since I was born and its a great way to reconnect with friends from home that I don’t get to see very often. I had fully intended before I went to document the interior of the home, as well as the exterior. I must have had vacation time on my mind though because I hardly took a single photo inside of the house. Luckily, I do have lots of the people there and those are the most important memories to me anyway! We drove to Bocabec after work on Friday and arrived there just before dinner time which gave us a good amount of time there.

Here are the images.

There is always lots of barbecuing going on forĀ  breakfast, lunch and supper.

This is the one interior photograph that I took of the home, which is the dining room. We’ve had many good meals and have played so many fun games here.

We went down to the beach to fish some (I just watched and played with Hunter) during high tide. We didn’t have a single bite but did enjoy the sunset!

Hunter loves and I mean LOVES to swim. He had been swimming earlier this day and takes forever to dry off so we didn’t want him to get wet again at night. So much for keeping our dog dry at the beach

Of course, we got a flat tire when we were there, luckily we have CAA and they came right over and pumped up our tire. We stopped a few times along the way home to pump more air into the tire just to make sure that we were not driving on a flat tire. It ended up that we had a nail in our tire so we replaced them all with a new set of summer tires yesterday.

If you are going to be married on a holiday weekend, I would suggest to do it like Heather and Matt did. They came from out west to have their destination wedding in Wolfville, at Domaine De Grand Pre, which was great as it was outside of the hustle and bustle of Halifax. Everything about this wedding was perfect- a gorgeous bride and handsome groom whom are totally in love with each other, beautiful blue skies, an amazing venue with a wonderful coordinator and only the closest and dearest friends in attendance. One of my favorite parts of the day was when I was photographing the bride and groom by themselves and Heathers dad was with us. It was at that point that I realized that he had not taken his eyes off his only daughter for the entire wedding day. What a proud dad! I have to send out my thanks to Grand Pre as well for the amazing job they did on this wedding for Heather and Matt! The food was so delicious, the service was perfect and the vineyard is just so gorgeous for a wedding!

Heather, you looked gorgeous!

Such pretty tables and decor

This was the head table. The little brown boxes on the tables are chocolates from Frans Chocolates in Seattle. They were delicious gray salt and smoked salt caramels and were amazing! I will be placing an order for some of those myself!

You might say that it is an addiction of mine, a small, oh so wonderful problem. The past few years, I have loved having little potted plants around. I don’t know if its because of the years of apartment living and having no green space to call my own but one of my favourite things is to see all the garden centers go up in the parking lots come May. They slowly but surely fill up with the most gorgeously scented, colourful and downright cute plants and flowers. If I have some extra time to shop while out and about, I will stop into any and all garden centers that I come across. This may be how I happen to own 19 tomato plants in my garden… This past week, I went to a hardware store to buy a sander and of course I had to stop into the garden center. I found a great deal on little flowers and herbs, so I bought some more. I bought a few lavender and fennel plants for $0.62 each and a few gerbera daisy’s for $0.99 which I just so happened to have an open pot for. Now, I just need some sort of a plant table to get them off the floor of my front porch.

Happy Friday everyone!

June Acronym

July 3, 2012

June was one of those months that you think it just started but in reality is just about over. Justin and I had all the regular work going on, we also had several weekends away from home in a row and I took on several house decorating projects, none of which are 100% complete yet, although most are close to being finished. Here is a little look back at the past month with the June Acronym!

Justin’s Grandmother moved out of her condo in Mississauga and gave us quite a bit of her furniture. We feel so lucky to have received it from her! In our old place, we didn’t having a dining table so we needed to get one when we moved into our new house. The dining table and buffet from Granny look awesome in the dining room and I love the storage that the buffet provides!

Utterly gorgeous beaches in PEI! We made a quick weekend trip to PEI and stayed in a cute cabin near Brackley Beach. One thing that I miss living in Moncton is having the ocean next to me. In Halifax, I could look out our bedroom window and see the Halifax Harbour and we could get to a beach in less then 15 minutes. In PEI, it seems as though you are always close to the ocean and a beach. Here is a picture of Justin and I at the beach, it was a chilly day, hence the jacket and scarf but still so pretty.

New chairs for the living room… when we moved in, I knew that I wanted two chairs in front of the wall with the window and a small side table in between. I have been looking for the perfect chairs and have had such a hard time finding them. I want them to match, to be comfy and have a fun, yet elegant fabric. I thought I had the perfect chairs, I even bought them and drove them home one by one in the car but decided to return them. They were just too light coloured and with a dog and a cat, I knew they would get ruined before long. I am searching for the perfect chairs again… If any of you know where to find a gorgeous pair of chairs, let me know!!

Endless painting. I have spent the month painting, painting and painting some more. The house was painted perfectly when we moved so I haven’t had to touch the walls at all, instead, I have been painting furniture. I painted a dresser for the studio, a night table for my sister, I stripped and re-varnished a headboard (counts as painting, right?) and I painted the entertainment unit that my brother built for me. Benjamin Moore is my best friend! Here is the before and after for the studio dresser which is for holding all my newborn props and accessories! The dresser was a bit of a sorry sight before I started working on it, I got anxious and took off the medallion at the bottom and a handle before I got an image of it. I still need to attach the new, sleeker handles to it, but I think it looks so much better already!
