Alison and Frankie’s wedding completed my wedding season and I finished it on a high note with a great wedding. Since wedding season has been done, I have been able to spend time with my husband and kitty, cook some and help keep the house clean. I do miss having a wedding every weekend though! I am excited and ready for next year’s season to start!

Alison and Frankie were married on October 30th at the Westin. They had a beautiful ceremony and an amazing bridal party who kept us laughing all day long. They were also the biggest bridal party I ever photographed with 8 bridesmaids, 8 groomsmen, 3 flower girls and 1 ring bearer! 22 people in the bridal party total!

All the girls got ready at Sykea Salon and Spa at the Westin

Alison’s beautiful Maggie Sottero gown. Alison was set to buy another gown when she walked into Winchester’s Bridal and saw this one. She instantly knew it was the one.

The bridal party was awesome! They braved the chilly fall air so well for these. I love the gorgeous patch of colour we found.

Alison and Frankie, what can I say? You both can work it for the camera so well and smize better then anyone else I know.

To introduce the bridal party to the reception, they prepared a slide show with a picture of each groomsmen and bridesmaid. These images were somewhat embarrassing. Everyone was very nervous for what would come up on the screen when their name was called… loved it!

Happy Holidays!

December 19, 2010

Well, the holiday season is upon us now with only a week left until Christmas day. Today I will be braving the stores one more time with my sister to help her do her shopping… I wanted to avoid them this time of year so I did all mine in November. Anne, I think this proves how much I love you!

I will be away, spending a couple of weeks in New Brunswick with Justin’s family as well as mine. It will be great to be away and have time to relax, bake Christmas bread with my mom, take our family photographs and catch up with all of our extended family. If you need to get to contact me between December 20th and January 3rd, please e-mail me at info@emmapoliquin.com. I welcome any new wedding and portrait inquiries during this period.

With the new year quickly approaching, I have begun to formulate a list of business and personal goals as well as other changes to Emma Poliquin Photography for 2011. I will be sharing some of these with you right here on the blog in the coming weeks and it is going to be major!!

I had a big goal from this year to gift my 2010 wedding clients a pretty ornament with their pictures in it for their trees. I have to say that I managed to find a gorgeous one and they are in the mail! Yea! I also figured out that you really have to do a lot of searching to find non tacky ornaments! Here is a picture of the ones I sent this year.

Merry Christmas everyone! Keep checking back because I will be updating the blog while I am away.

Anne and Matt : Just a couple?

December 12, 2010

When I took these images of my sister, Anne and her boyfriend, Matt, I was told that you would have to preface the blog post with saying that these are not engagement images. They are “anytime photos.” There is no reason for only engaged couples get to have all the fun and get couple photographs taken. I would highly recommend for any couple, siblings or even friends to book a session. It is awesome to have beautiful images of you and all of your special people. …Anyways… I am thrilled to be able to say now that they are engaged!  These are not their official engagement photographs though, we will be taking them sometime in the spring or early summer and it will be super fun with some awesome locations. The day we took these, we only had about 20 minutes and were taken during later morning (which all photographers know, it is a time of day with awful natural light). We found a great spot downtown with open shade by where we parked our car and started shooting. I love these images. They show how playful, loving and fun Anne and Matt are as a couple.

By the way, Anne and Matt have a super romantic proposal story that I may tell here on the blog when I post their engagement photographs. Love you both so much.

Sarah and Brian’s big day took place on one of those days that make you realize that it is fall in Nova Scotia- a day in which you want to eat apple crisp, drink spicy Chai tea and take a meandering walk through a local park to look at all the red, yellow and orange leaves. We did all that and more on this Saturday.

Sarah and Brian are a wonderful, comfy, cozy couple. Both are occupational therapists committed to helping others through their jobs and other organizations they donate their time to. Brian moved across the country for Sarah, a girl who missed Nova Scotia too much and took on a massive house renovation soon after their arrival in order to give Sarah her dream home.

Such pretty details

I waked into the reception, amazed at how perfect the decor was. Carved pumpkins, gold and orange linens, cranberries, orange lantern flowers, a menu card with fall leaves enveloping the text. It was perfection. Decor was done by Simple Touch Decorating and Floral, I always love their work.

Amazing food, emotional speeches, beautiful first dance, and a delicious cake. A fabulous day for a perfect couple.

I’m serious, this cake was amazing. I was starting to get so sick of wedding cake (and cake in general) this year but they had a red velvet cake with a delicious butter cream frosting. I have never had a cake so amazing. I have to highly recommend Shauna at City Girl Cakes for providing the cake!

Brad and Heather’s wedding was very special for Justin and I. Justin and Brad have been friends for over 10 years and was the best man in the wedding. It made for a busy wedding weekend, full of so much fun. Heather planned a fall theme wedding that took place at The Old Orchard Inn, in Wolfville. There were touches of red, orange and jewel tones as well as other Fall characteristics like apples in the centerpieces, and leaves strewn down the ceremony aisle.

The day started off with e staying with the guys to capture them getting ready, while my second shooter went to the salon with the girls, which was a nice change of pace from what normally happens. Generally my second shooter stays with the guys so I miss all their bonding time and I am left to wonder what went on there as I cull and edit the images.

Brad, all dapper and ready for the day

Dayle-Marie and Colin were married on a crisp, October day at the Saraguay House. Their day was beautiful and oh so stylish! It was a mix of J. Crew and H&M, their personalities were infused into each detail of the day. It was rumored at the wedding that Dayle was so good at wedding planning, she had everything planned within a week of becoming engaged. The love throughout the day was so evident during the ceremony with every glance they made towards each other. I know that you will have a life time of happiness together.

The day started at the Aveda Life Salon Spa in Dartmouth Crossing where the women there did an amazing job on everyone’s hair and makeup.

After the ceremony, we stayed outdoors and went around the grounds of The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron for photographs. I am still impressed that they rocked the photos outdoors despite the chilly temperatures.
