It was such a treat and honour for me to  photograph Wanda and Martin for their 25th anniversary. I photographed their daughter and son-in-laws wedding (Dayle-Marie and Colin can be found here) last year and Dayle gifted this session to her parents as an anniversary gift. It is always such an honour when a couple loves their photos so much that they hire me to photograph them again down the road or hire me for a friend.

Wanda and Martin have an amazing relationship, even after 25 years of marriage. They are funny, considerate and great looking too! We used Shubie Park as our location for the session, which turned out beautifully and I loved all the history that Martin was able to tell me about the Canals.

halifax_nova-scotia_shubie_park_anniversary_photographer-008Congratulations to both of you, here is to 25 more!

It was a busy summer to say the least, actually, it came and went so fast that I hardly know where it went. Both of my siblings got married and I could not be more thrilled! We are a family of 8 instead of 6 now!

Frank and Dafne were married on September 17th, which would have been my grandparents anniversary. They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony at one of our relatives homes, overlooking the beautiful fall foliage. Their aisle was lined with tree posts and candles, where they walked to say “I do.” Dafne looked so beautiful and Frank looked quite handsome in his tux. For the photographs, we went to a field on my grandparents farm with beautiful tall grass. The light was coming through the trees just perfectly.

My cousin Jessie did all the makeup and hair for the girls at Hairraiser in Woostock, NB.

The reception was so much fun. Everyone was chilly from the strong wind but it was all so pretty. Dafne spent months making all kinds of DIY details, including the flowers on her cake. My grandmother hand illustrated each place card and Emma, my sister-in-law who is an artist, screen painted a Mr & Mrs sign.

I had help with the photography throughout the day by my friend, Natalie Paget of Hartfelt Images by Natalie, located in Simonds, NB. You were so helpful and it was fun to finally get a chance to work with you Natalie!
Frank and Dafne, I love you both so much, I can’t wait to see your completed home!

I have spent the past week and a half in NB with my family and have been on the go non-stop since I got here. I just had to pop in here, between client posts to wish everyone who reads my blog, all clients, family and friends a wonderful, blessed and happy new year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful 2011 and that 2012 is even more fun.

Justin had to be in Halifax to work most of the time that I’ve been here in NB so I made sure to take a picture of us while he was here. I used my tripod and the self timer but the best part of the picture, was that I decided to take it on a day that was -22 during the night… brrrr. I could only take 4 before we were absolutely frozen and had to choose the best one. Its hard to get a good one when your running back and forth to the camera but I love this one!

Karen and David were married on a beautiful Saturday in August. The day started with all the couple photographs, bridal party and family photos before the ceremony. I love it when my couples are willing to see each other before the ceremony. It makes it so we have so much more time for photographs and no less special then seeing each other at the ceremony for the first time. Karen and David were so lucky to have so many close friends and family by their side every part of the day!

The reception was out of the world gorgeous. It was held at the couples home in their back yard and Patricia Pardy and her team did an absolutely amazing job decorating and coordinating. It was the most elegant garden reception that I have ever had the honour to photograph, I loved every minute of it. Karen chose to decorate with Lucite chairs, pink and touches of rosemary. It was stunning!

All stationary was designed and printed by Duly Noted, my favorite stationary store in Halifax!

In August, my sister Anne married a Navy Officer and now that the military is a big part of my life, I want to honour my brother-in-law by giving a discount to everyone from the Military that books a wedding with me.

For the past few years now, a wedding season has not gone past without a few of my couples being in service. Those weddings are always so much fun and so memorable!

Please contact me for additional details. Military ID is required before discount is given.

Can I say everything that I want to say to Anne and Matt into the proper words? I doubt it… Anne gave me a double duty to do on her wedding day. I was Matron of Honour as well as photographer. I have to admit that there were a few times leading up to her wedding that I thought I was going to go crazy because I thought I had taken on more than I could handle. We had it worked out so the day was as stress free as possible and I can not imagine not being both Anne’s Matron of Honour as well as her photographer. It made the day even more special for me.

Anne and Matt planned an elegant, family style backyard BBQ wedding where people could just hang out and see people they haven’t seen in a long time and they did a fabulous job at it. The day started out a little bit busy, but by the time the ceremony started, everyone was calm and relaxed. The ceremony was beautiful. It was a packed Church with a wonderful feel. After the ceremony, we took some time to take more pictures of Anne and Matt around Fall River. We found an awesome barn to use, since it was quite sunny out and we needed to find some shade. When we went to the reception, we had an awesome welcome from the guests, ate so much amazing food and had lots of time to talk to family and catch up. Anne and Matt looked so perfect together and I LOVE that they cut their cake (that I made!) with a sword!

The ladies of Aveda Life Salon in Dartmouth Crossing did an amazing job with our makeup

Anne wanted lemon blueberry cake so I baked for an entire day before the wedding to get enough layers and filled them with bowls of Swiss meringue butter cream and fresh Nova Scotia blueberries. The cake was served with Anne’s favorite lemon sherbet from Maine. My cousin Crystal, the chef who catered my own wedding placed the fresh flowers on the cake.

I need to thank Adam Graham for second shooting for me throughout the day… this would not have been possible without him!

Darcy: Wow! So beautiful. Emma your pictures are amazing. Congratulations Anne!

Kristina: Emma!!! Amazing pictures and AWESOME JOB ON THE CAKE!!! :) So proud of you!

Adam: I'm so glad I took some time tonight to catch up on the blogs I follow. Seeing this post made my day. You did an amazing job (in both roles) and I'm glad I was able to be there to help out. (I'm not sure your dad could look any prouder giving Anne away. That's an awesome capture.)

Kristin: Emma, these are incredible! You did such a good job with the pictures and the cake - and I'm sure you were an outstanding matron of honour! Congrats to you and sister!

This is just a quick post so I can get onto posting the images from Anne and Matt’s wedding, that happened to be two months ago! I thought that I should get their engagement images up first though. Anne and Matt had just a short opportunity where they could come to Halifax for their engagement photos, so we finally got together about 2 weeks before their wedding. Since Matt proposed at The Citadel, we naturally had to go there for the engagement session. We ran out of light that night, so the following morning, we headed to the waterfront to finish up the session.

I loved getting together with you two and can’t wait to see you again.

Matthew and Melanie had a very beautiful, intimate ceremony with only close family members in attendance at the Halifax Club back in August. They met way back on their first day of Journalism School at Kings College and it was almost love at first sight. They have been together ever since writing and falling deeper and deeper in love. We headed to Dingle Park for these, a very special place here in Halifax for Matthew and Melanie. Later on, I went back to the Halifax Club to photograph the reception decor, which was so uniquely done. Since they had an intimate wedding, they were able to set the table as one long table for family style dining. I loved how it looked. Matthew and Melanie also made great favours- jars of cookie mix that the guests could take home and bake. I hope this inspires more couples to do long tables instead of round.

Due to privacy reasons, I can not show you any images with the groom, so these are all of the bride and the reception settings. Enjoy!

My newest addiction… cakes!

September 12, 2011

As some of you may know if you are a friend of mine on Facebook, I am addicted and in love with baking and decorating cake! I’ve always loved baking and this is a greater extension of that. I am finding that I love fondant cakes with very feminine details and cakes that have unique flavor combination’s like homemade salted caramel butter cream on chocolate cake or Neapolitan cake with strawberry, chocolate and vanilla cake layers with the same butter cream flavors sandwiched between them. These cakes are all for friends and family only.

Here are a few pictures of my recent creations:

I made this cake for my sisters bridal shower. It is a 6 layer Neapolitan cake.

I think I made 4x as many flowers as I needed for this cake!

This was for my husbands birthday earlier in the summer. I kept asking him what kind of cake he wanted and he couldn’t decide so I surprised him with this sushi cake.

I was testing out butter cream ruffles on this mini cake. Its on a salad plate to give you an idea of size. No fondant on this cake but I think it still is pretty girly! I will be doing a cake for my brothers rehearsal dinner party and I think I will do ruffles on it. Now, I just have to decide on a flavour.

cake-8

And this little creation here is one of my favourite cakes to date… a homemade salted caramel butter cream (the caramel was made from scratch) covering a rich chocolate cake with fleur de sel sprinkled on top… yum. I made this cake for our second anniversary.

cake-9

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of my cakes!

Christa: Yum! Looks delicious....almost too pretty to eat :)

Kristina: So beautiful! I miss baking cakes with you! :(

Mary Marantz: these are incredible!! color me impressed!!

Kristin: These look so yummy and so pretty! Can't wait to bake with you for Christmas!
